IPO Watch List for 2022
With significant rounds of fundraising over the last 10+ years, the market is bracing itself for a massive wave of IPOs. This wave is the result, in part, to the last decade of trillions of venture capital dollars directed to startups. Ernst & Young noted that 2021 gave us the highest yearly deal volume ever, with a total of $453 billion raised by 2,388 firms. These numbers are big and they highlight not only the influx of companies that went public last year, but the expectations for a considerable public market in 2022.
Some of the most notable companies that went public in 2021 include:
- Coinbase (COIN)
- Lucid (LCID)
- Rent the Runway (RENT)
- Rivian (RVIN)
- Robinhood (HOOD)
While 2021 was a big year for IPOs, not all of these organizations found success following their push to go public. In fact, most IPOs found themselves under their initial returns by the end of the year. At any rate, many companies are looking to make their public debut this year as last year’s boom continues.
While no one can predict the lasting success of new IPOs, there are a number of companies itching for a stock launch. From message board giant like Reddit to robotic process automation company Automation Anywhere, this year is poised to be eventful. The following are some of the most notable companies on the IPO watch list for 2022:
- Automation Anywhere: software automation backed by SoftBank
- Chime: digital banking company out of San Francisco
- Flipkart: Amazon-like company backed by Walmart and based in India
- Instacart: grocery delivery service app
- Mobileye: advanced driver assistance systems owned by Intel
- Reddit: message board giant
- Stripe: payment processor
- TPG: private equity giant
- Vinfast: electric vehicle manufacturing company based in Vietnam
The big names like Reddit and Instacart are feeding predictions that 2022 will be an even bigger year than 2021. The real question lies in deal value. While there seems to be an increase in the number of deals that will hit in 2022, deal value is much more difficult to predict. In fact, some compare IPOs to lottery tickets. Enticing and entertaining, but with massive amounts of unpredictability. Regardless, 2022 is prime for thrilling stock launches in even more thrilling industries.
