Born and raised in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Matt Smith’s CPA career began in May of 1998 here at Smith, Stohlman, James & Gardere. P.A. (SSJGCPA) where he was brought on as a staff accountant and eventually grew to his current role as shareholder and co-managing director of the firm. He is also co-manager of our separate wealth management and investment advisory business, Poinciana Advisors Group, LLC (PAG).

Smith provides litigation support in the forensic accounting and business valuation services sectors, and specializes in high net-worth marital dissolution matters. He became a Certified Public Accountant in July 2002, and was certified as a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) in 2003. This credential is issued by the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, a global professional association that supports the business valuation, litigation consulting, and fraud deterrence disciplines within the CPA and professional business advisory communities. In addition, he was certified in January 2006 as an ABV, Accredited in Business Valuation through the AICPA to go along with his CPA license.

Smith also holds a CFF, Certified Financial Forensics credential issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.

Matt Smith graduated from the University of North Florida after completing his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting , and has testified in several courts in South Florida throughout his career.

Smith is married with two children. In his spare time, Smith is a boating enthusiast, fishing often and even traveling to countries for targeted species like black / blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, Atlantic and Pacific sailfish, wahoo, and more. He was also an athlete, having played D1 baseball at Mercer University (1993 – 1995).
